With RE: Liljeholmen, a completely new urban district is being created with offices, hotels, housing, culture, services and new meeting places in the center of Liljeholmen. The addition of offices and hotels will increase diversification in the area. The idea is that the site, which is currently one of Stockholm's most important hubs, will become a more inspiring environment for socializing, working and meeting.

The basic idea of the project is to transform the existing track area next to the mall into a new urban space. The open track area for the subway is covered to enable a new indoor walkway, Plazan, connecting the elevated Nybohov with Liljeholmstorget and to increase accessibility to the adjacent park.

There are plans for new offices, a new hotel, more shops and services and new meeting places on the upper deck. The existing mall and office building will also be developed through additions and extensions. The outdoor environment will be developed next to the upper deck and a new residential building with an underground garage is planned next to the park.

Liljeholmen's center will be given a completely new design and urban character and become the heart of a modern, inviting district. In total, RE: Liljeholmen will include new areas of just over 70,000 square meters distributed between offices, hotel operations, care, housing, trade, service, culture and meeting places. Reflex is the responsible architect for offices, hotels and healthcare.

RE: Liljeholmen

As an interior architect, Reflex is developing a concept for Hus 6 Stationen, an office building that includes restaurants, shops, services and the entrance to the new metro in Slakthusområdet at street level.

Slakthusområdet is a district that is strongly influenced by its industrial background. Here you can find buildings in brick, steel and glass from the time of the emergence of the meat industry in the early 1900s. We start from the industrial history of Slakthusområdet and let concrete, steel, stone, wood and glass emerge and be framed with elegant and ingenious detail solutions. The natural expression and tactility of the materials are utilized and allowed to emerge in all their honesty, through well-composed compositions and with careful details, a raw elegance is created.

The building allows installations and structures to be visible. You will be able to feel the texture of the concrete with your fingertips and see the bare steel of the roof trusses - this gives the building an aesthetic expression that stems from the industrial history of the site and a built-in flexibility for the building to accommodate future changes.

The building will be a total of 17,000 m² LOA, of which 14,500 m² LOA is office space. The building is in the design phase and is expected to be completed in 2027.

Hus 6 Stationen

The project consists of a composition of old and new, a link between the new annual ring of tall buildings on Marievik's promontory and the inner part of the district with older buildings.

On Marieviks udde in Liljeholmskajen, a completely new neighborhood is planned, with space for new housing and a mix of old and new business premises. We have designed a block consisting of the existing office building M27 and the brand new building M30, two units that together form an overall composition. Each building is given its own distinct character but is also related in terms of proportions, staircases and facades. The new tall narrow building on M30 has been studied to contribute to the depth effect in Marievik's new urban silhouette and dramatizes the variation of light over the day.

The cohesive volume of the M27 contributes to a quiet and urban front towards Årstaängsvägen. Earlier build-up from the 1980s is demolished and replaced with six new floors that create a combined volume where the old and new floors become part of a common figure, the top three of which have kinship with m30's phased volume management.

The project was designed by Ripellino Architects, now part of Reflex Architects.

M27 & M30

Backaplan is a completely new part of Gothenburg's northern city center that is emerging north of the river. In the district, retail, offices, housing and services will interact to create a vibrant and dynamic neighborhood with people at the center.

Deltahuset integrates into the new urban structure and acts as a cornerstone of the district. The form and design of the building is developed to harmonize with both Gothenburg City and Backaplan. The design will serve as a visual marker from Lundbyleden while complementing the future, surrounding neighborhood structure.

Through Deltahuset, Balder is developing 19,000 m2 of rentable space, with 17 and 19 floors respectively, and the river and the new Hisingsbron bridge as viewpoints. The building is planned to be 75 meters high, with 250 parking spaces, several charging stations and an exceptionally good commuting location both by car and public transport.

Deltahuset Backaplan

In central Norrköping, an urban development is underway with housing, offices and hotels in close proximity to the Central Station and Carl Johan park. Here Reflex is designing a hotel and an office in the strategic corner of Norra Promenaden and Drottninggatan.

The building is 8 storeys high but is stepped down towards the existing building to the east. The facades consist of a warm tone of brass-coloured expanded metal cassettes that pick up the thread of the city's textile history and act as a metal "fabric pile". The facade has a great depth effect and in the evening the building is toned up with LED lighting behind it. 

The facades are in a work process and may change slightly. Restaurants and foyers on two levels are glazed and bring the city into the building. At the top there is a sky bar and large terrace overlooking the city.

Clary House Hotel

In the work with Urban Escape, Reflex has developed new volumes and designs for two existing properties in one of Stockholm's most centrally located neighbourhoods.

The project, which was initiated by AMF Fastigheter in 2014, consists of the refurbishment of several properties and a multi-storey extension. The refurbishment of the block is part of the transformation of Stockholm's city district, which is one of the largest urban development projects in Stockholm's inner city in several decades.

The two properties for which Reflex has been the lead architect are T29 and T31. Both properties have prominent locations in the city and are located in a culturally and historically important environment.

Through actions that activate the street space in which the block lands, new flows are created and thus reinforce the sense of urbanity. Our work has been based on the conviction that the design of urban space must be based on the people who inhabit it. All the premises have been modernised to meet the requirements of a good working and living environment.

The property T29 is located at the intersection of Hamngatan and Malmskillnadsgatan with neighbours to the west in the form of Kulturhuset and Riksbanken and with a view of Sergels torg and Brunkebergstorg.

Two new floors have been added and the facades have been completely redesigned with shiny glass and champagne-toned elements. The new facades consist of standing rectangles in aluminium composite panels and sections in clear glass and screen-printed glass. Along the Brunkeberg ridge, the direction of the building is reinforced by metal arches spanning the new penthouses and landing at the former eaves.

Located at the intersection of Regeringsgatan and Jakobsgatan, the T31 property has been renovated from the fifth floor upwards to provide modern office space and a conference room. A three-storey extension and a seven-storey wing have been added to the courtyard. In total, the refurbishment and extension covers some 25 000 m2.

The building's former blue and pinkish-purple facade has been replaced by a design with a deep-working facade of copper-coloured anodised aluminium sheets and a new window division. The cladding is 100% recyclable and is in line with the pursuit of sustainable construction. The task of the new façade was to unite the existing building volume with the three added floors and the additions in the inner courtyard into a coherent whole.

On the roof is a vast rooftop terrace offering recreation and entertainment in the form of restaurants and bars such as TAK and Stockholm Under the Stars. The rooftop views create an additional communication surface that connects and relates to the surrounding city.

Urban Escape - T29 & T31

Söderdepån is located at the far eastern end of Södermalm, on the site of the old tram halls. The block is part of an urban development area with seven new blocks.

The seven staircases contain a total of 220 apartments, including condominiums and rental apartments. A taller building at the small square forms a portico to Bondegatan together with the taller building of the neighboring block. The facades consist of concrete elements with embedded bricks in four warm colors with different settlements.

The buildings follow the grammar of the stone city with clear plinths, facades and a defined roofscape with front porches and domes.

Towards Persikogränd, housing is at ground level with stairs directly onto the forecourt. The square is lined with premises and provides opportunities for outdoor dining.

Söderdepån

A new district is emerging in the former Läkerol factory area in central Gävle. K2A's block is part of the urban development project where new buildings coexist with older industrial buildings and together form a rich neighborhood and cultural environment. The new neighborhood is characterized by pedestrian streets, greenways, small-scale squares and different typologies and architecture that through variation in scale and design connects to and highlights the area's preserved industrial architecture.

K2A's block is located in the southern part of the area and has three to five floors with a total of 132 apartments ranging in size from 1-3 rooms, of which 6 apartments are LSS housing. In the corner towards one of the area's smaller squares is a local. 

The neighborhood's volume division with different numbers of floors and roof solutions forms the basis for a richly varied architecture. The cladding of the street facades is linked to the industrial architecture, wood panels, bricks and folded sheet metal, which further reinforces a small-scale and varied architecture. A bright and cohesive courtyard has been achieved through a uniform design with brightly painted wood panels.

The facades conceal a prefabricated building with a wooden frame, a rational construction with volume elements where the apartments are prefabricated in the factory for assembly on site. The homes are space-efficient and sustainability-certified by the Nordic Ecolabel.

Godisfabriken

SEB's new office in Arenastaden is a project divided into three city quarters, tightly interwoven with the city's other streets - a city within a city.

The new office is one of Sweden's largest offices, with 97,000 square metres GFA and 4,500 workplaces. Divided into separate building volumes, they still feel like ordinary city quarters. Movement in and around the buildings is a key theme in connecting and organising different places in the office landscape with the city outside.

The house volumes have been designed as three sharply cut crystalline forms clad in glass. The supporting steel structure is individually designed for each building and has provided the motif for the various patterns of the facades, which are screen-printed in white. In a thematic way, the glass reflects its surroundings while the printed pattern provides a shifting shadow effect on the underlying facade.

The building is environmentally certified according to BREEAM Excellent, with low energy consumption, own electricity production via solar cells and a bicycle garage.

SEB - Arenastaden

Kajplats 6 won Stockholm Building of the Year 2022.

On Liljeholmskajen, overlooking Årstaviken, Kajplats 6 is part of the new city front that towers over the water. The new urban structure with its high-rise buildings is a symbol of the district that is emerging - sprung from an industrial context, the site allows a scale that takes up space.

The project consists of a new block consisting of two parts: a U-shaped city block of 6-7 floors and a high-rise of 26 floors.

At street level there are facilities to make the street and quay more lively. The facades are clad with ceramic tiles in different colours and surface textures. The material and shadow effects of the facades create a lively expression in interaction with the migration of daylight during the day.

Spacious balconies are integrated into the facade and act as an extension of the apartments towards the view. The apartments in the U-shaped part of the block also benefit from the view, as the whole block opens up to the water, like the 20th-century buildings of Norr Mälarstrand.

Retail space and an entrance to the restaurant on the top floor will be created in front of Årstaviken. The restaurant offers a view for miles and forms a landmark for the district - a shining beacon in the landscape.

The building was designed by Ripellino Architects, now part of Reflex Architects.

Kajplats 6

By the shoreline of Solna Strand, Reflex has designed the redevelopment and extensions of the blue-rated office block Nöten 5. 

Most of the area of the block is offices, of which about 4500 sq m is a newly built link linking the existing house bodies. In the street level, about 800 sq m of restaurant, café and conference rooms were created.

The four blue-labelled 1970s houses with their characterful concrete facades have been completely rebuilt with newly created ground floors and carefully renovated facades. Between the four buildings there is a new, glazed 'link building' connected to the gables of the four buildings, linking the houses together. The new 'link building' is elevated two storeys and floats in the air by means of tall columns. This opens up the connection between the approach street, the courtyards and the waterfront promenade. 

The building has facades of glass and facade glass that reflects the character of the strong concrete facades.

By lifting the body of the house via a link building, free passage towards the water has been opened so that the public can easily access and enjoy the canal.

Nöten 5

Reflex creates modern complements with careful detailing in the heart of Stockholm as the landmark Katarinahuset at Slussen enters a new century.

Katarinahuset, with its iconic Katarina lift and Gondolen restaurant, is a classic motif in the Stockholm skyline. Located next to Stadsgården and facing the inlet of Lake Mälaren with Djurgården and the Old Town as a backdrop, the building has a hard-to-beat location in the city.

The building has a rich history, with different eras and building styles leaving their mark. The building was designed in the National Romantic style by Gustaf Wickman and built between 1909 and 1912. In the 1930s it was extended by Eskil Sundahl and Olof Thunström and adorned with functionalist artefacts, including a new light facade in Gropptorps marble.

As the building is now being refurbished by Atrium Ljungberg, Reflex is providing well-balanced additions in the form of an extension floor with associated roofscapes and terraces. Inspired by the Stadsgårdens and Södermälarstrand artists' studios with their effective northern lights, we have developed restaurant and office spaces with high and spacious glass sections whose impression is enhanced by vertical slats in the façade.

Our assignment also included developing a program concept for the existing building as a whole. Our ambition has been to create a contemporary design in a context permeated by historical details.

The starting point for our work has been to transform this historically valuable building with great respect and care, creating an attractive meeting place in a modern context that all citizens can benefit from.

Katarinahuset

As Marievik develops, we are designing a residential area with an elegant 32-storey building. A completely new neighbourhood is planned for Marievik cape, with space for around 1000 new homes right next to the water. The block consists of five blocks of 8-32 storeys containing around 230 apartments, a preschool, restaurant and premises.

The block opens onto Årstaviken and Norra parken, with the higher residential tower withdrawn to create curtain effect. The block's house bodies have individual façade designs and color schemes that give them their own identity and create variety around the block.

With its clear vertical motif, the high-rise gives associations to classic high-rise role models, and distinguishes itself as a darker volume dressed in bronze-colored metal cassettes with a brushed surface.

Marievik 15

Barkabystaden is one of Sweden's largest and most exciting urban development projects. Together with housing companies, businesses and landowners, the municipality of Järfälla is building and developing a completely new district with housing, workplaces, a new hospital, premises for education, hotels, trade, services, sports, health and culture - right in the middle of northwest Stockholm's future public transport hub with metro, bus square, commuter train and regional train station. Reflex has won the land allocation competition for "block 17" - Luftseglaren, with a project where Reflex designs a block with 202 condominiums, 205 student apartments and a preschool.

The green courtyard feels private while offering possible views of the bustling city life. The richly landscaped courtyard has clear zones for play and patios and provides the conditions for everyone's needs. The ground floor is characterised by openness through corner rooms. There are both accessible bicycle rooms, access to the bicycle pool and car pool.

A bicycle café/parcel service/pick-up place is strategically located in the block and becomes an "active hub" for the whole area. The residential apartments have plaster facades and brick plinths and have balconies and terraces in the best south-west facing position. The student residences and the preschool are built in wood with wooden facades and have a more rustic panel in the plinths and gables. The variation in volume and building types of the block corresponds well to the programme for Barkabystaden.

Luftseglaren

Kromosomen is one of the first blocks in Stockholm's new Hagastaden area, where Vasastan stretches out to meet Solna. The area will become a new ring of years in Stockholm's city plan, with a higher scale than the rest of Stockholm.

The Kromosomen block consists of four tower blocks linked by lamellae. The building body gives a massive expression. The towers can be compared to four boulders sculpted to create variety. The façade facing the street and the park consists of concrete elements with a strong relief in warm tones, the courtyard façades are made smooth and lighter.

The courtyard is private but exposed to the city to enrich the urban space. The district is designed as a suite of openings to the city's public spaces - the new city park and Norra Stationsgatan.

The building, which is to be certified with The Silver Environmental Building, has 545 bicycle parking lots and service rooms for bicycles, sedum roofs and visible stormwater handling. The block has mixed apartment sizes, a living socket apartment with business premises, access to green areas and proximity to public transport. When Hagastaden is completed, there will be 6,000 new homes and 50,000 jobs; the old industrial area is transformed into a vibrant and attractive neighborhood.

Kromosomen

"The Forest" is the winning proposal for Sweden's pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai. The proposal has been inspired by the idea of the forest throughout, in everything from the architectural approach to the narrative and spatial design of the exhibition. A visit to the pavilion should be a holistic experience that reflects our co-creating culture and traditions.

The forest is a Swedish noble landmark - an archetypal environment and a place for reflection that fosters imagination and creativity; a growing and dynamic ecosystem and a community of living creatures connected to each other.

The forest as an ecosystem is a symbol of co-creation based on respect and mutual contribution - the natural intelligence of this system creates a "Wood Wide Web". United by roots and fungal mycelium, the trees form a community that shares information and nutrients - a perfectly balanced whole in which each individual part plays a key role.

In the proposal, the symbolism of the forest has been transformed into architecture and an exhibition that can act as a carrier of meaning for the qualities of the forest. The architectural dynamics of the pavilion arise from the free roaming between the tree trunks of the open exhibition on the ground floor and the private programme organised in closed tree houses. The different types of spaces that house the programme are all inspired by the metaphor of the forest - glades, coves and canopies.

The proposal is designed by Alessandro Ripellino Architects together with Studio Adrien Gardère and Luigi Pardo Architetti. Alessandro Ripellino Architects is now part of Reflex Architects.

Sveriges paviljong Expo 2020

The vision for Forest City is to create a climate-positive city with 10,000 jobs, which is emerging adjacent to Skavsta Airport and the new railway station on the planned East Link. Skavsta Forest City is a hybrid between forest and city, where nature and urbanity meet and merge into a vibrant and sustainable mix of innovation, production, culture, tourism, restaurants and wildlife and outdoor life.

The basic idea is to preserve and complement large parts of the existing forest on the site to form a coherent network of natural areas. Within and between these green zones, the built environment emerges, designed to have a positive impact on ecology, social sustainability, energy and food production. The new buildings will be constructed entirely of wood.

Forest City was selected as the winning proposal for the Skavsta development in the framework of Europan 17. Europan is held every two years and is the largest recurring competition for young architects under 40. Dženis Džihić and Jon Bossuyt of Reflex, in collaboration with Staffan Svensson and Vlad Capitanu, developed the winning proposal.

Skavsta Forest City

Central Sundbyberg is renewed. The new Kronan is developing into a modern environmentally smart office block, which interacts with its new urban context.

The Kronan block in central Sundbyberg originally consisted of three buildings built in 1981. The property is characterised by a 15-storey office building that rises high above the surrounding buildings. The block also included a six-storey office building and a four-storey car park built into the hillside. New Kronan has been developed into a modern, environmentally friendly office district, with 40,000 sq m of new office and parking space.

The new buildings, designed by Reflex, contribute to creating an urban character along Sturegatan. The buildings are divided into smaller volumes with varied design and height to fit into the small-scale Sundbyberg.

The variety of houses in scale and shape is accentuated by an individual façade design. The façade materials are timeless and durable in a graphic color scheme that contrasts with the reddish-brown brick in the high-rise. The façade at the intersection of Sturegatan-Ekensbergsvägen consists of integrated solar panels in black glass.

All parts of the block are accessed via entrances from Sturegatan, which lead directly to three light gardens. Natural meeting places are created in the block through common areas in the lower levels with reception, conference and meeting rooms. Generous green roof terraces offer views of the surroundings. There are also solar panels on the roofs. The project has been designed to achieve LEED Platinum Core & Shell environmental certification.

The whole of Nya Kronan is leased to the Swedish Tax Agency, which has gathered its employees here on 42,000 square metres, almost half the space compared to before.

From 2013 to 2018 Reflex has been responsible for the concept, detailed plan, programme documents and system documents. Construction documents have been designed by CF Möller for the contractor Skanska. The buildings were completed in 2021.

Nya Kronan won the Building of the Year 2022 in the hotel and office category.

Kronan

The preliminary study presents a development proposal that revitalizes and recreates Gustavsberg center as a vibrant district. The proposal has not been studied in detail but will form the basis for further detailed planning work. 

During the preliminary study, both qualities and problems have been identified and the new proposal is based on preserving and improving Gustavsberg's unique character. The aim is to create a mixed center with about 600 - 700 new homes, new workplaces, cultural functions and other urban activities such as trade, food and entertainment. Sports activities remain as an important function within the plan area. 

The preliminary study has taken into account existing and future plans regarding traffic, the new bus square, the city park and the square's function as a gathering point. The proposal takes advantage of Gustavsberg's character and identity and the new development is planned so that Gustavsberg's history is readable for future generations. The preliminary study provides a basis for road layout, block structure and urban character and takes into account both public and private interests. 

The proposal is well balanced between housing supply, cultural values, sports, future transportation needs and business development. The feasibility study was developed in dialogue with Värmdö municipality, Reflex and SPG, the current owner of the center property.

Gustavsbergs Centrum

The new care home at Hasseludden is beautifully framed by surrounding woodland, older listed buildings and Yasuragi. The 3-story building is located on an open lawn at the end of Hamndalsvägen and houses 60 apartments.

As architects, we have focused on creating an environment that is safe, rich and varied both inside and out, for everyone who lives and works in the building. We have also worked to create floor plans where all primary functions can be separated in order to limit possible contamination.

Low window sills that allow for a view even when bedridden in both apartments and common areas are a fundamental quality of the building. The living room and dining room in each unit of 10 apartments are positioned so that they face different directions and allow for close contact and views both towards the courtyard and the immediate surroundings.

Proximity to the outdoors is provided by balconies or patios at ground level.

The ambition has been to create a building that naturally blends into its surroundings. Facades clad in black-pigmented wood panels and flat plant-covered roofs form the basis of the building's materials and color scheme. The apartments are grouped in two wings that are connected by a central volume that houses all common functions and work spaces. The two wings frame two courtyards, one to the northeast with the entrance and driveway and the other to the southwest with the garden.

The building's division into several volumes gives it a small-scale character with shaded and sunlit areas that alternate throughout the day. A ribbed structure in pattern effect is added to the outside of the wooden panel, giving further life and shadow play to the facades.

Hasseludden

Through Kineum, Reflex has created a new landmark on Gothenburg's skyline. The building is both a destination in itself and a symbol of the revitalisation of the Gårda district. The project is based on the idea of promoting organic exchange between the city and its inhabitants - creating a pulse, stimulating the local environment and engaging people.

The ambition of this project has been to take Gothenburg's classic working-class district of Gårda into the future. Kineum is a building with a bold approach, adapted to its surroundings. The shape, volume and design language have their roots in Gothenburg. The building's cross-shaped exterior links it to the fishing nets and cranes of the old port city, without overshadowing the surrounding architecture.

With its 28 floors and 30,000 m2, Kineum is a building that is visible and takes its place in the city. Kineum dares to stand out both inside and out, creating a vibrant, playful and colourful space. The facade is built up with floor-to-ceiling glass triangles.

One detail that makes the house unique is the choice of a diamond-shaped glass roof. The angle of the house creates a greater verticality and the roof is perceived more as a fifth facade. The tower creates a dynamic conclusion that gives the city an exciting new silhouette.

The workplaces, hotels and shops of the future will be housed under one roof. The building's content is intended to spill over into the surrounding area, thereby contributing to activity and providing services to a wider area. In this way, the building can act as a catalyst to lift the Gårda district as a whole.

The building's name is taken from the Greek for "in motion" and refers to the ambition to create a meeting place where people will want to spend time even outside office hours. Based on this goal, we have created a building that will be characterised by movement, interaction and diversity.

Kineum

The preliminary study was developed in dialog with Uppsala municipality, Reflex and SBB/K2A. Flogsta center is a worn 70's area southwest of Uppsala center. The assignment was to make a planning application and then a feasibility study and planning work towards a new detailed plan. On the site today is a large Ica store and parking lots right next to a major highway E55. The area is bordered by large-scale buildings with mainly student housing. The site is currently perceived as unsafe and noisy. 

The client wanted to develop his property and Uppsala Municipality wanted to steer the proposal towards a new denser and safer neighborhood as part of a larger detailed plan. Reflex developed two large blocks with ground floor shops, an ICA Supermarket, a pharmacy, a full-sized medical center and about 320 new apartments. 

Great emphasis has been placed on the security aspect, and the proposal also includes a new square that connects the million building area with the new center and surrounding park paths.

The proposal is currently under consultation and is expected to enter into force in 2024.

Flogsta Centrum

The new residential block is located in Bjurhovda, which is a residential area in eastern Västerås with mixed buildings mostly built in the 1960s. The site is accessed from Bjurhovdagatan to the south and shares an access road with an existing grocery store. In the area for the new homes, which was previously undeveloped, a large grove of mature trees and shrubs has been saved. The purpose of the densification and the new detailed plan that allows for housing and premises has been to create a local square that strengthens the site and the grocery store.

The new residential block consists of 4- and 5-storey buildings with flat pitched roofs, two slatted buildings and an L-shaped building with a total of 155 rental apartments in sizes 1-3 rooms. The buildings are, like the surrounding buildings, placed at right angles to each other and together surround a common residential courtyard with open corners to the surroundings. In close collaboration with the landscape architect, a car-free courtyard has been created with places for several seating groups, greenery and a playground.

Both the building frame and the facade cladding are in wood. The coloring of the facades in red and in a rye color is related to colors in the immediate area and, like the existing residential areas north and south of the site, the new block has its own clear design and identity.

Bjurhovda

The block is located along Rosenborgsgatan in the northern part of the area and consists of three buildings that together form a block around a common courtyard. One of the buildings contains 46 student apartments and the other two together contain 88 rental apartments. The block is located along the main street and contributes to the development of the new district through bright residential entrances and a corner location.

The overall design idea is that the exterior of the buildings facing the surrounding streets is clad in falu-red wood panels, while the facades facing the courtyard sides of the block are clad in white painted wood panels. The white interior is visible from the surrounding streets and plays against the red enveloping color of the block. As a whole, the idea is for the block to be perceived as a modern interpretation of classic wooden construction. The buildings are constructed with a wooden frame and are environmentally certified according to the Nordic Ecolabel.

Harklövern

Competition proposal for Falsterbo's new spa and conference hotel. The area around Falsterbo is said to be one of the best places in the country to find amber - a translucent yellow-red gemstone that has been a sought-after treasure for people throughout history. Amber is formed when resin, mainly from coniferous trees, is fossilized in the seabed and thrown onto the beach by the force of the waves. This journey from forest to beach is a symbol of the new hotel complex Villa Amber, which takes its name from the English name of the gemstone. Villa Amber is a hotel that takes advantage of the contrasts of the site.

A place for both experience and contemplation. The concept is based on the movement from the safe and warm space towards the dunes and the sea - as well as the reverse process - leaving the open and uncontrolled and returning to the safety of the open fire. In this duality between fire and water lies the core of the concept. The content of the hotel reflects the duality of experiencing as well as contemplating. Within the hotel complex there are generous areas and facilities for community, conference and socializing; for spa, yoga and relaxation; and for pleasure, experience and recreation. 

The proposal consists of two distinct parts - the existing building and the new building complex. These two parts are physically connected to each other by an elevated link that allows visitors to move between the two units in a dry-shod manner. On top of this single-storey link there is also the possibility to move outdoors and to easily reach the bar and terrace level of the existing house where the best views are available.

The new part of the hotel complex can be read as a broken building where the different parts are oriented according to the directions already present on the site. The building wraps around a courtyard open to the south and the sea. In this space, there is a low structure that forms the hotel's entrance, reception and lobby. Apart from this part, the new building varies in height between two and three floors. On the two-storey parts, terraces are created while on top of the three-storey parts, a roofscape with both solar panels and sedum is proposed. A glazed pavilion with a large open fireplace surrounded by seating is proposed in the center of the courtyard.

Villa Amber

The main idea of the competition proposal was to create two distinct blocks with car-free courtyards. The variety of housing types, including student housing, small apartments and terraced houses, contributes to the

diversity in the area. The aim was to create a varied, small-scale and vibrant development.

with variation in number of storeys, character and choice of materials but with a clear design approach of monochrome buildings with strong gable roofs.

A block, where the houses relate to the main streets in a more urban way, with a parking street lined with trees, sidewalks and entrances and facades directly facing the sidewalk. Towards the other streets, a forecourt creates the feeling of a garden city. 

A food store is strategically located at the square and the main entrance to the student accommodation block, bringing life and movement to the site. The storefront opens to the street but is built into the courtyard by a large terraced staircase, a great place for students to hang out in the afternoon sun.

Kungsbäck

Berghus 3 stands next to a mountain wall. The building's roof terrace provides a direct link to the greenery of Årstaskogen. The residential building houses 36 apartments and a preschool with four departments. The building is located between the mountain wall in the south and Sjöviksvägen in the north.

Loft passages open the building against the rock face and create a drama between building and steep. The design is based on the green moss of the forest: the plinth is covered with moss green tiles and the facades are roughly trimmed in light green colours.

The balconies will have perforated railings that interact with the plaster. The facade facing the mountain has a warm light yellow tone to give warmth to the apartment entrances and contrast with the grey colour of the mountain wall. On the roof there is a terrace for the residents and a terrace garden for the preschool. From the terrace there is a walkway across the mountain to the greenery of Årstaskogen.

Berghus 3

Two residential buildings that create a close dialogue with the church and the church park - an entry in an invited land allocation competition. The proposal consists of two lamella buildings that complement the existing urban structure of lamellae and point buildings. They frame the Church Park and form a filter between Tulegatan and Rosengatan.

Helan, the tallest volume, highlights the Rosengatan/Tulegatan intersection and forms the backdrop to Vackra vägen, playing in scale with the Tule Towers. The half, the lower volume, connects in scale with the existing point buildings along the southern side of Tulegatan.

The building volumes are designed as massive building bodies surrounded by a sheer balcony structure and an outer semi-transparent envelope that ties in with the trees in the church park and the green copper colour of the church. Vertical façade elements allude to the church's counterfoils, linking several floors and reducing the scale of the buildings. Balconies provide noise protection while giving residents an opportunity for their own gardening space.

The proposal is designed by Ripellino Architects, now part of Reflex Architects.

Helan & Halvan

In the assignment Spiken 11 & 12, two new courtyard houses have been designed next to Järnvägsgatan in central Sundbyberg. The buildings provide a more intimate courtyard space and develop the neighbourhood towards a more urban, green and small-scale urban environment. The buildings contain approximately 40 new dwellings, all of which are rental units.

The houses have been designed with the aim of creating pleasant and well-functioning spaces in a continued green neighbourhood environment. The buildings have rounded corners, which provide a softer encounter with the existing environment and give a more airy feel to spaces that may be perceived as narrow. The rounded corner opens up the spaces between; the eye and the thought turn around the corner. The rounded shape also provides a kinship with the houses on the other side of the access road, which also have rounded corners.

The balconies are designed as external "hollows" so as not to contribute to the perception of the building itself as larger. They are also designed with rounded corners and perforated railings. The palette is coherent in terms of character, form, material and colour. The facades have been designed with few elements to maintain a calm and clear identity in harmony with the existing environment. The project's aim and ambition has been to maintain the pleasant and well-functioning intermediate space that already exists and to safeguard a neighbourhood that will continue to be green in the future.

Spiken 11 &12 was voted Building of the Year in Sundbyberg 2021.

Spiken 11 & 12

The tenants' association's house on Norrlandsgatan 7 was designed by architect Birger Jonsson and was completed in 1937. The building is a period-typical functional office building that has a simple but careful expression that stands out well in the modern urban context. Now the Tenants' Association wants to develop its property – a mission that Reflex won in the tender competition.

Reflex winning proposals are to develop the property with regard to the business's own core values: utility, glow and renewal. Existing features are redistributed and new ones added to modernise building and create new attractive workplaces in the city's best location.

A large assembly hall and roof terrace create a new modern platform for the development of their own business. As part of this, the top two retracted floors of the existing eight-storey building are demolished and replaced with a new extension.

The new four-storey building will house office space, communal collection areas and roof terraces. The frame is made in wood and the façade and the terraced volume takes into account the historical and physical context while expressing renewal and sustainability.

"Reflex Arkitekter's proposal has in a very good way combined our core values with the modernisation of our building. It also takes into account the surroundings in a good way and our expansion takes place in harmony with the surrounding neighborhoods. I am also fond of the solution to build the frame in wood, which is both economically and environmentally friendly, says Jonas Nygren, Federal Manager at the Tenants' Association.

Hyresgästföreningen

When Mimo is completed, it will be the final piece of the puzzle in what will be the entrance to Mölndal's most central location. It will develop an entire block that will become a dynamic hub for flexible and future-oriented workplaces in combination with retail and services. 

The mix of old and new buildings creates a link both to the site's history and to modern Mölndal, which is characterized by innovation and development. The facade concept is based on enlarged bricks in running bond, a material associated with the industrial identity of Mölndal.

Mimo

The first LEED-certified building in Sweden is located at Vasagatan 7 in the centre of Stockholm. The aim of the redevelopment of the city quarter Pennfäktaren was to transform an anonymous and closed building into one of the city's most modern office buildings with a pronounced environmental and technical focus.

The closed concrete façade was replaced by an intricate system of glass boxes and sections of stretch metal. The result was a building that reflects its surroundings during the day to change character at night to become transparent and transparent.

Vasagatan 7

In Södra Råbylund, a new neighborhood close to nature is emerging in Lund. The project, which consists of three new residential buildings, is located directly adjacent to the area's new square and contains a total of 98 apartments in sizes 1-4 rooms. Residential entrances are located on the street's forecourt, the stairwells are daylit and the apartments on the bottom floor have patios facing the south-facing common courtyard. An underground garage under one of the buildings leaves a large sheltered courtyard with space for play, socializing and rest.

The buildings all have a different number of stepped storeys - higher, with three and four storeys, towards the square and lower, with two and three storeys, towards the inner, smaller-scale part of the area. The facades are mostly rendered with a color scheme based on the scale of the buildings: the larger one towards the square in a warm white color, the smaller one in dark beige and the one in between in a warm beige tone. Wooden panels in dark brown stain break up the entrances, stairwells and recessed balconies.

The buildings are constructed with a wooden frame and are environmentally certified according to the Nordic Ecolabel.

Näcken

Riverside is Gothenburg's most waterfront hotel. The building forms a landmark in Lindholmen's city and harbor landscape. The hotel has a simple form with a shiny facade reminiscent of fish scales. The building has a strong orientation towards the center of Gothenburg and overhangs one of the harbor basins in Göta Älv. The gable over the basin is made entirely of glass, giving the effect of a shining eye towards the city.

The hotel has 266 rooms and also contains meeting rooms, a bar, a restaurant with outdoor seating facing the Göta River, and a SPA on the top floor with a terrace and miles of views.

Radisson Blu Riverside

The unique artistic design and placement of the trees is a new landmark and a new northern gateway to Upplands Väsby. These 16-metre high billboards are located on the E4 at Stora Wäsby allé and Infra City. The aim is to restore the 400 year old lime avenue to Wäsby Castle, which was torn up by the E4 road in the 1960s.

The signs create a clearer visual link between the eastern and western sides of the avenue. 2 of the trees have digital LED signs. The unique artistic design and placement of the trees is a new landmark and a new northern gateway to Upplands Väsby. The entire construction of the signs is made of corten steel and will take on a bright and rusty red hue over the years. Corten steel will acquire a bright and rusty red colour over the years.

Träden

Two loft buildings with 280 student apartments and a café on a wooded site. The area is located next to the Umeå Campus sports arena (IKSU) and contains student apartments on 4 levels, as well as a café. The block consists of two loft buildings facing the main street and four blocks facing a private courtyard. The café is located in the southwest corner of the block and is intended to be used by students, high school students and visitors to the sports arena.

The houses are built as timber volume elements with facade panels in various shades of green and brown glazed pine. The woodland character of the site has been preserved in the courtyard and the entrances to the houses are accessed via low wooden bridges that hover over cap and blueberry bushes.

Roten

Arenastaden is emerging at Solna Station, with the National Arena, Mall of Scandinavia, offices, hotels and housing. On top of the mall, Reflex has designed a 45,000 sqm office building. The entire building is leased by Telia as its headquarters.

The facades are glazed internally from table height upwards. The view is magnificent. The lowest office level is 25 metres above ground, the highest 58 metres above ground, which is higher than in the Hötorg skyscrapers. 

The facade consists of different types of glass, which gives different impressions throughout the day depending on the position of the sun. The complex is linked by a series of light courtyards, with communal facilities, meeting rooms and cafés. 

The offices are designed for an activity-based approach.

Telia-huset

Kv Steken and Kv Högreven are part of the first development phase of the Slakthus area.

The neighborhood is distinguished by its mix of functions. Here, a full-sized sports hall coexists with student housing, researcher housing and a preschool. The sports hall is half submerged underground and the roof of the sports hall is used as a preschool yard. Towards the nature park there is a stepped meadow in an excellent sun position that serves as a link between the courtyard on the roof and the greenery in the park.

The blocks contain a total of 246 student apartments. In both blocks, the ground floors are designed with a generous floor height and there are a total of three premises facing Boskapsvägen. The preschool premises are on two floors facing Högrevsgatan with entrances at street level.

Facing the streets, the Kv Högreven has brick facades, and facing the courtyard and park, the facades are made of wood. The idea behind the design draws inspiration from the bark that surrounds the tree. The facades facing the streets are made of brick, like a "bark" of a durable and robust material, and the facades facing the courtyard are made of wood.

Kvarter Steken consists of an elongated volume located along Boskapsvägen. The building has a light-colored wooden facade with an external ribbed structure, a kind of modern carpenter's delight. The wooden façade lands on a brick plinth floor, which runs horizontally around the entire building. On the park side, there are patios halfway up the stairs, which in their design relate to the old loading docks in the area.

Steken och Högreven

The study "Södra Klara" clarifies the planning conditions that exist in the area around Tegelbacken - one of the most central and waterfront parts of Stockholm City. The aim of the study has been to develop the area's public spaces into attractive urban spaces, particularly along the waterfront. Traffic areas are compressed and the area's dual street levels are better connected to the City. The different development strategies are divided into stages/scopes called small, medium and large.

Södra Klara is an area with great development potential, our study shows strengthened connections and a developed urban space at Riddarfjärden.

The study was carried out by Ripellino Architects, now part of Reflex Architects.

Södra Klara

The Neptun block in Västerås, with its 120 rental apartments, is Sweden's first apartment building with plus energy. Plus energy houses mean that the building produces more energy than it consumes.

The block is located right next to Lake Mälaren in the new district of Öster Mälarstrand in Västerås. The area is intended to become the city's first sustainable technology and environmental district. The Neptun block is testing technology that reduces energy consumption for hot water. The block is also designed to achieve Miljöbyggnad Gold.

The design is based on the solar and water position - the volumes have been shaped to create the maximum space for solar cells. Materials have been chosen to take advantage of daylight and on the south-facing sides, greenery becomes part of the façade.

The two louvres have a facade of sinusoidal corrugated iron with green window surrounds and details. The smaller point building has a green shimmering tile facade. The façade materials are inspired by the water surface and the character of the quay.

Kvarteret Neptun was named the Property of the Future at the 2019 Real Estate Fair and also received this year's sustainability award from the City of Västerås.
