A prosperous city requires a balanced density - it is needed to maintain the richness demanded by an urban environment, from a social, ecological and economic sustainability perspective. We therefore like to design tall buildings where different functions can share space.

A mix of services, entertainment, housing and workplaces ensures synergies that lead to vibrant and inspiring communities. With public spaces and vibrant street levels, the building can create the conditions for a lively urban space during all waking hours while ensuring flows to populate it.

The tall building contributes to the city at multiple scales, both to the urban silhouette and to the nearby streetscape. We have designed several landmarks that have helped to profile their neighborhoods or districts. We pay great attention to materiality and detailing and know that the spaces in the city must be treated with the same care and concern to create quality places for residents.

In our design work, we take into account the surroundings and history and take into account existing values as well as development potential and allow issues of quality, sustainability and care to be the guiding aspects of the design.

 Tall buildings

Wood is one of the few renewable building materials and an excellent choice in the transition to sustainable construction. It is climate-friendly, has many health-promoting properties and offers easy assembly. In addition, wood has good thermal properties and can be recycled.

A wooden building envelope can save as much as 50% of a building's carbon emissions over its lifetime.

Designing wooden buildings can be a challenge in existing zoning plans where restrictions on the number of floors or overall height can make it difficult to accommodate wooden floors. Our toolbox includes both all-wood and hybrid solutions to suit all types of conditions.

With around 6,000 timber-framed homes built from Lund to Umeå, we have extensive knowledge of cost- and production-efficient solutions that we are happy to share.

Wooden buildings

Understanding and knowing how to harness the value of what is already built is a win-win for everyone. There is great material and cultural value in existing urban structures and buildings, and avoiding demolition and waste of resources means saving our planet.

There are also social and historical values in places or in buildings that have been built up over time and that can be lost if not taken into account. Knowledge of these values and how to enhance them is key to a successful renovation, conversion or extension project.

We have extensive experience in enhancing existing buildings and urban environments and adapting them to today's safety, energy performance and accessibility requirements. We have learned that creating new solutions in existing building structures requires creativity and sensitivity.

Reuse is close to our hearts, and we are happy to suggest how what has been used and appreciated over the years can be given new life in new contexts.

Renovation, conversion and extension

We thrive at the cutting edge of technology. Decades of designing laboratories for the future have made it part of our DNA. Over the years, we have helped numerous companies create the conditions for their laboratory operations.

Regardless of scale and complexity, there are many common parameters behind a successful laboratory, and also plenty of opportunities to tailor to individual needs.

The activities carried out in laboratory environments are often characterized by unpredictability - what is researched today can be very different from what is researched tomorrow. We understand how needs can change over time and can propose solutions based on the client's needs, both today and in 10-15 years, which helps to create adaptable, safe and sustainable laboratory environments.

Our knowledge of laboratories includes complex functional and safety solutions as well as rational solutions for modularity and flexibility.

When designing the exterior of buildings, great attention is often paid, and rightly so, to the street level and facades. However, one part of the building that is unfortunately often forgotten is the roof.

At Reflex, we have extensive experience in harnessing the potential of roofs and see many positive effects from this. The roofscape is an excellent place to weave more greenery into the cityscape - contributing to biodiversity and creating areas for pollinators such as bees and butterflies. At the same time, a green oasis among the rooftops can create an interesting aesthetic expression and help raise the profile of a building.

Creating walkable roof spaces can also generate other values. Inviting spaces on our roofs are an efficient way to use square meters - while creating added value for building users. Inviting the public to enjoy rooftops by creating rooftop parks, restaurants or other service spaces is also a great opportunity to give something back to the city and its inhabitants.
